Like its namesake, Hummingbird Modern hovers above the desert terrain, its layered planes framing the Sonoran landscape. The design unfolds through a sequence of experiences: a secluded terrace, a place beside the fire, a pool at the threshold and rooms that open themselves to the outdoors.

A room can hold more than its occupants. It can hold meaning, memory and the objects gathered over a lifetime.

Enclosed in glass, the breakfast room at Courtyard Reflection reads as a garden pavilion from a distance. Step inside, and the owner’s crystal collection surrounds the table, transforming a display into an immersive architectural experience.

“You realize you are a part of the collection,” says architect C.P. Drewett, who integrated the crystal into the room rather than treating it as decoration.

Great architecture makes anticipation part of the experience.

At Le Château d’Arcadia, the gate, garden, central walk, and reflecting pool form a measured procession toward the entry, with Camelback Mountain completing the composition beyond.

At Aravella, the architecture began with the walls. Mortar-washed cobblestone forms were conceived and placed before the rest of the structure, allowing the residence to take shape around them. The result evokes the permanence of an ancient ruin, interpreted through a distinctly modern lens.

A first look at what is now taking shape.

Designed for a site where a mountain peak once stood, Tip Top looks outward in every direction. Its folding forms respond to the land’s unusual history while framing long views across the Phoenix Mountains Preserve.

Water is more than an amenity. At Part and Counterpart, it becomes atmosphere—catching the light, reflecting the architecture and bringing movement and sound to the pool pavilion.

What makes a great room great? The view, of course.

At this Paradise Valley residence, expansive glass draws the mountain panorama into the room. Turn in the opposite direction, and the interior offers an equally expressive focal point: black-and-white marble rising above the linear fire feature, framed by black basalt.
