Gus Fonseca-Walker – Intern
A Colorado native, Gus moved to Arizona to attend Arizona State University, and in May 2025, received his bachelor’s degree in Architecture Studies in Design. Creative, athletic and ready to gain real-world experience, he looks forward to growing professionally at Drewett Works as he works toward his architecture license.
While at ASU, Gus was active in sports, participating in both the wrestling and cheer teams. He also managed social content and took part in the school’s community events. During his summers, Gus umpired high school baseball and softball teams, allowing him to serve his community, learn leadership skills and give kids the chance to play a game they loved.
This lifelong football fan will continue his education at ASU in 2026, as he pursues his master’s in architecture degree.

How did you become interested in architecture? I have always been interested in how buildings were made and designed. I think my passion grew after taking my first architecture classes at ASU. I’d always call my mom after class and talk her ear off about all the cool things I was learning/doing.
What about architecture drew you to the field? Well, I always considered myself a creative person, and I have always seen architects as people who have a very unique perspective of the world.
Favorite architect? Classic Frank Lloyd Wright
What aspect of your profession do you enjoy most? I think the relationship between the built structure and the mind and experiences of the designer is very interesting to me.
Dream project? Design and build my own home for my future family.
Describe your family. Do you have any good-sibling stories? My family is awesome! I have a really strong support system and plenty of people who cheer me on. I have two sets of parents, including my stepparents, who have been in my life since I can remember. Additionally, I have two older stepbrothers. It’s always a good time when the brothers get together, and even if it’s been a while, we don’t miss a beat. My mom has four siblings, and they all live in the same town, so holidays/birthdays (there’s a lot) are filled with cousins running around, and a lot of good cooking.
Free time activities? I enjoy working out, playing golf with friends, playing the guitar, and going to the zoo.
Do you have any special talents? I have a few tumbling and stunting skills that I picked up from cheer.
What has been the most influential/life-changing event in your life? When I stopped wrestling, I had to find an identity outside of sports for the first time in my life. I really dove deep into architecture and following that passion. I also picked up hobbies like stunting.
You’ve won the lottery. How would you spend your time? I would most likely do a bit of travel, but for the most part, I would just keep chasing my passion for architecture.
Dream destination? Italy
What would you wish for if you were granted one wish? Superpowers—probably the ability to shapeshift.
Proudest moment? After my college graduation ceremony, I just saw the pride and accomplishment that my family had for me, and it was one of the most fulfilling feelings.
Favorite food? Cheese fondue or sushi
Least favorite food? Prime rib
Favorite movie genre? Documentaries/Comedy
It is your last day on earth. How will you spend your time? I am flying home and spending the day with my family.
Favorite Netflix binge? “How I Met Your Mother”
What is something you do when you are looking to relax? I really like to watch those Morgan Freeman-narrated nature documentaries.
Dream vacation? A four-month trip around Europe exploring all the amazing buildings and techniques of European architecture.
The last book you read? Designing Your Own Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans.
Favorite movie? “Fifty First Dates,” or really any Adam Sandler movie.
Who is on your current playlist? A lot of different types of music, whether it’s Green Day, Johnny Cash, Post Malone or Morgan Wallen, I enjoy most music, just depends on my mood.
Fireplace or bonfire? Bonfire, it’s always nice to enjoy with a circle of friends and just chat about life.
Favorite free-time activity? I really enjoy stunting, it’s such a good feeling to hit a new skill or implement a new technique.
Most embarrassing moment? When I was about 13, I was on a trip with my family to Disney World, and I snuck away to the movie theater to watch “Inside Out.” They had to use Disney police and security cameras to find me and pull me out of the theater.
