When the owners of a property in Paradise Valley, AZ, asked for an “austere but exciting piece of modernist architecture,” C.P. Drewett responded with Bow Tie Ranch, a bespoke home with deconstructive undertones.

Highly tailored in design, Bow Tie Ranch is a stunning work of architecture in the making. With its expressive butterfly roof, dramatic ocular openings and massive walls of retractive glass, it is both contemporary and refined.

Located on a large lot surrounded by impressive mountain views, the 14,862-square-foot residence and 2,640-square-foot detached casita will be constructed of limestone, plaster and zinc. A 200-foot-long skylight will run down the spine of the five-bedroom home, and deep overhangs will protect it from the sun’s heat.

Pocketing glass walls that open to expansive patios are integrated into almost every room, including one that is 60 feet wide and overlooks the pool and casita, which offers a jaw-dropping view of Camelback Mountain. Two circular openings in the roof bring a playful element to the design and direct light in unexpected ways. With its neutral color palette, high ceilings and sophisticated glassed-in entry, Bow Tie Ranch is a celebration of airiness and simplicity.

The home will include a children’s wing, high-performance theater, working office, large wine room, gym and wellness center with a sauna, steam room and cold plunge. For guests, the spacious three-bedroom casita will feature a full living space, a kitchen, a two-car garage, plus a stunning patio accented by sculptural cacti and succulents.

For fun and sun, an irregularly shaped pool with a Lautner knife edge will be constructed with an 80-foot-long swim lane, sunning platforms, a Baja shelf and a spa. Additional shade will come from lengths of weather-proof canvas stretched above the resort-like backyard. Nearby tennis and pickleball courts guarantee frequent playtime, and a walking trail circumventing the property will make for a great way to start the day.
