With Camelback Mountain as its backdrop to the west and the Four Peaks Mountain Range to the east, Part and Counterpart is as unique as its setting.
Located in Cameldale Estates, an exclusive community in Paradise Valley, AZ, Part and Counterpart is one of 11 custom contemporary homes designed by architect C.P. Drewett. Taking an unorthodox approach to the layout of the house and its pool pavilion, Drewett describes it as two “L’s” that overlap. Limestone, glass and plaster are the primary materials in this exceptional black-and-white modern house.
A beautiful glassed-in entry atrium that looks directly to the pool connects the guest quarters on the left and the main living spaces to the right, which make up the long side of the home’s “L.”
The guest wing consists of three pods: two suites divided by a large light-filled den with floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Drewett says the addition of the den was designed as an amenity that offers guests a private place to relax or gather.
The main living area is open and bright, with the kitchen, dining area and great room flowing from one space to the next. Grounding the area is a black basalt wall that houses the owner’s wine collection. Bands of windows on the west side of the house showcase Camelback Mountain as a work of art. On the east side, a magnificent 50-foot-long pocketing door opens the entire area to the pool and pavilion creating a majestic indoor/outdoor living space.
A gorgeous primary suite, with the same view corridors as the public spaces, features a freestanding tub and a glassed shower. Directly behind it is a luxurious his-and-hers wardrobe.
Outdoors, a sheer negative-edge pool is set between the house and a dramatic L-shaped two-story pool pavilion. The structure offers seating and fire features on both levels and an exercise room below a glass-bottom spa located on the second story, which lends the gym a unique light.
