California coastal contemporary meets French sophistication in Harborcraft House, a luxury vacation home on Coronado Cays, where land and water converge in an idyllic setting.
Designed as a vacation home on a strip of land just south of San Diego, Harborcraft House resides in the marina community of Coronado Cays, where waterfront views, private docks and noteworthy homes are the norm. With less than a quarter of an acre to work with, architect C.P. Drewett made the most of the limited footprint by adding an upper level to the six-bedroom, 10,047-square-foot home and incorporating outdoor living spaces wherever possible.
Durable paint-grade siding and painted brick—both in white—celebrate the marine environment while keeping maintenance to a minimum. While the exterior is light and bright, the interior marries classic French sophistication with contemporary California styling. Exposed stained wood and a rich color palette dominate many of the rooms.
Harborcraft House—which blends the idea of boatbuilding and artisan home design—consists of three primary bedroom suites, seven bathrooms, a bunk room, theater, gym, game room and bowling alley, making it the ideal getaway for entertaining. Hidden in the center of the residence is a speakeasy that draws inspiration from the Golden Age of Jazz.
Outdoors, a front yard agrarian patio is enhanced with citrus trees and a beautiful box garden. On the back pool deck, which sits close to the edge of San Diego Bay, a pool, spa, seating area and view terrace make the most of the compact space without impeding the compelling views. Patios off the primary and junior primary suites allow for quiet contemplation.
