Outdoor In, a striking custom home that opens out to the rocky red hills and colorful desert plants in Paradise Valley, Ariz., was named Home of the Year in the 2018 Best in American Living Awards by the National Association of Home Builders.

Positioned near the base of iconic Camelback Mountain, Outside In celebrates outdoor living with a distinctive feature that seamlessly connects the indoor and outdoor living spaces. A large pocketing door when retracted opens most of the interior to the outdoor swimming pool and terrace. Large windows and the home’s southward orientation bring in spectacular natural light.

“This home is a great example of desert contemporary and uses textural materials reminiscent of the local landscape in all the right places, bringing the outside in,” said Don Ruthroff, Principal at Dahlin Group Architecture Planning, NAHB’s 2018 Judging Chair and 2018 Best in American Living Awards Subcommittee Chair. “It has clean lines, is beautiful and consistent, and is overall very well thought out.”

The house was designed by Drewett Works in Scottsdale and built by BedBrock Developers LLC, based in Paradise Valley. The home’s interiors were designed by Ownby Design.

Additionally, Drewett Works also won the following awards.

  • Platinum Award for Best One-of-a-Kind Custom or Spec Home 4,001 – 5,000 square feet — Outside In
  • Platinum Award for Best Outdoor Room — Outside In
  • Gold Award for Best Remodel – Entire Home – Over $750,000 — Hummingbird Sanctuary
