DW-designed project Elegant Modern captured a Silver Award at the 2016 Nationals for Best Architectural Design of a One of a Kind Home – Custom or Spec.
NAHB’s National Sales and Marketing Council (NSMC) has announced Silver Award Winners for The Nationals new home sales and marketing awards for home builders, developers, associates, and consultants. Drewett Works received Silver Award honors for Best One of a Kind Home – Custom or Spec for the Elegant Modern project.
The primary goal for this project was to craft a modernist derivation of pueblo architecture. Set into a heavily laden boulder hillside, the design also reflects the nature of the stacked boulder formations. The site, located near local landmark Pinnacle Peak, offered breathtaking views which were largely upward, making proximity an issue. Maintaining southwest fenestration protection and maximizing views created the primary design constraint. The views are maximized with careful orientation, exacting overhangs, and wing wall locations. The overhangs intertwine and undulate with alternating materials stacking to reinforce the boulder strewn backdrop. The elegant material palette and siting allow for great harmony with the native desert.
The project team included architecture by C.P. Drewett of Drewett Works, Manship Builders, Interior Designer David Michael Miller, landscape architecture by Greey | Pickett, and photography by Dino Tonn.
The Nationals salutes and honors the best in the building industry for their determination, integrity, creativity, and endurance.
Silver Award Winners are the top vote recipients in each category and are the finalists for the Gold Award. Gold Awards in each category, presented as part of the International Builders’ Show, at the awards ceremony on January 19, 2016 at Caesar’s Palace which drew more than 1,000 attendees.
“The Nationals are the most prestigious awards of their kind, setting the benchmark for innovations in new home design, marketing and sales,” said Christy Beck, chairperson of the Nationals. “NAHB’s commitment to recognizing originality, imagination and success has been exemplified by its award winners since the competition’s inception.”
